Pause and Continue - Long Reads

This video demonstrates the Pause and Continue, and AutoTrim options available in the Edit/Record Voice screen. These options work together to facilitate the recording of Long Reads such as Sportsmanship Statements or Senior Recognition. Pause and Continue allows users to record Long Reads one sentence at a time, pausing between sentences to review the last capture (and delete and recapture if needed) before continuing to the next sentence. The AutoTrim option trims each capture so that exactly 0.5 seconds of dead air are left on either side of the voice within each capture, and therefore preparing each capture to be stitched together for the final audio.

The Pause and Continue feature makes it very easy to tackle long reads of multiple sentences, allowing you to tackle that Long Read one sentence at a time, pausing between sentences and allowing you to play back that previous sentence and delete it if needed, and then continue. Some examples of where this Pause and Continue might come in handy would be a Sportsmanship Statement, which is required by many organizations and many varsity programs in most states, or Senior Recognition Day, where you have long reads of a paragraph or multiple paragraphs. This gives you the assurance that you've already captured these Long Reads, and all you have to do at game day is simply tap a button and you know you've nailed it.

Pause and Continue and AutoTrim can be seen at the lower right corner of the screen. For example you have 3 short sentences. Record the first sentence "This is my first sentence." At this point you can play that back with a play last button. You can delete it if you need to. Let's go ahead and hit Continue and capture your second sentence. "This is my second sentence" and hit Pause again. You can play it back, but let's assume you don't like that. So you are going to hit Delete Last and that's going to throw away that last one. Now, if you hit Play Last, it's going to be back at your first sentence. So if you hit Play Last, "This is my first sentence." All right you have deleted that second one, so you’re gonna recapture that second sentence. Now we're ready to go into the third one. In the third one, you'll notice I turned on AutoTrim. What AutoTrim does is it automatically finds where the audio began and where it ended and trims it. So there's exactly a half a second of dead air on both ends of the recording. "This is my third sentence." Now when I play it back, "This is my third sentence," you'll see it trimmed off all that extra dead air and just left 0.5 seconds so that it, it aligns nicely with the recordings before and after it. Now you are going to hit Done. If you’ve completed your capture. And now when you hit Play, it puts all three of them together. "This is my first sentence. This is really my second sentence. This is my third sentence."

This way you are taking on that Long Read one sentence at a time, and if you mess up a sentence, that's okay. You can just rerecord that last sentence, but you don't have to rerecord the whole paragraph just because you messed up one sentence. And once you're done recording your Long Read, you might get creative with it and combine it with a, a song that might be appropriate. For instance, maybe Generous and Kind by Natalie Merchant for the Sportsmanship Statement. I don't know. Or for the Senior Recognition, you could use that song that you use for that senior's walkup introduction all season. Either way, I would start the Music first, maybe 3 to 5 seconds before the voice. Turn on Soften Music During Voice, and set the Relative Volume to a Louder Voice setting.

And I challenge you to find this kind of functionality in any app on the app store at any price. I tried. If you find it, let me know. But this isn't needed by everyone. But for those that need it, it is very convenient and very useful.
